ABOUT US

The launch of CASA STEFAN ZWEIG took place in May 2006 at the Austrian consulate in Rio de Janeiro, with the support of the consul general, Reinhold Steinberger.

The idea of turning Stefan Zweig’s last home into a museum is an old one. But it was only in 2005 that a group of friends and admirers of the Austrian author met and, with the support of the then consul general of Germany, Dr. Stephan Krier, and the mayor of Petrópolis, Rubens Bomtempo, an agreement was signed between CSZ and Petrópolis City Hall, in October 2006. With the support of the mayor and a group of followers from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, preparations began for the recovery of the building and its conversion to a small museum.

The management of CASA STEFAN ZWEIG is collecting personal objects in the hands of collectors, family members and admirers, so that the house itself carries not only his name, but his personality, his magic and personal history (Take Part).

The archives and activities being implemented by CASA STEFAN ZWEIG will contribute to the cultural and touristic development of the town of Petrópolis, one of the most frequently visited historical towns in Brazil (see the tourism section of the site www.petropolis.rj.gov.br).
