![]() Chabloz, Jean-Pierre ![]() Painter, draftsman, art critic, musician, professor and advertising man Lausanne, Switzerland, 5.6. 1910 – Fortaleza, 1984 In Brazil, from 1942 to 1948 and 1960 to 1984 Between 1929 and 1932 he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Geneva, Switzerland. He graduated in 1938 at Accademia Belle Arti di Brera, Milan. In 1940, because of the war, he moved to Rio de Janeiro with his family. He frequented the artistic nucleus at Pensão Mauá, located opposite his parents-in-law’s house. He exhibited in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In 1943 he was invited to work in Fortaleza in the rubber campaign as part of the war effort. He took part in 1º Salão de Abril and, soon after, organized a solo exhibition. He took part in the Franco-Brazilian Association of Ceará and Ceará Arts Society (SCAP). He encouraged local artists and published a cultural column in the Ceará newspaper O Estado. He gave violin recitals and music lessons. In 1945 he returned to Rio de Janeiro and had an exhibition at the Askanasy gallery with artists from Ceará, among them Chico da Silva (1910 - 1985), whom Chabloz discovered and championed. In 1948, back in Fortaleza, he showed work at 4º Salão de Abril. He then left for Europe and only returned to Fortaleza in 1960. From 1970 he lived in Niterói. He died in Fortaleza while on a visit. His archives were donated to the Art Museum of the Federal University of Ceará. In 2003 the Multiarte gallery of Fortaleza exhibited his paintings and drawings. ![]() |
